Your Voice

Your voice drifts in
Softly, lingering in the air
Between me and the kitchen

It doesn’t matter
What words you speak
I am easily entranced

It soothes me
Calming my ragged edges
Dulling the sharp pieces

Your voice has become
A sound that belongs
One that I’ll keep forever

I need it daily
On FaceTime calls
Morning and night

I need it daily
Recording at my desk
Absently coddling the kitties

My favorite way though
To hear your voice
Is with laughter woven through it

Meaningless jokes
Unstoppable giggles
And the sarcasm

Oh the sarcasm
The way you paint it in
Teasing me effortlessly

That’s how I know
That yours
Is the only voice for me
