OTP/Meet-Cute Prompt: They met in primary school.
They met long ago, when they were both struggling to write cleanly and read quickly. Neither remembers the other particularly well, except for the fight they had had over the bright blue marker. Shane had gotten it for her birthday, but didn’t appreciate it enough. Or at least, Maisy seemed to think she didn’t appreciate it enough and told her so. Cue lots of crying and screaming. There may have even been biting, but I wasn’t there, so what do I know?
The women are much older now, reflecting on the spat with humor rather than the bitterness of the child’s mind. It’s also been nearly twenty years since they’ve last seen one another, so the humor in it is the connection they must cling to.
“I would’ve brought you the marker I stole, but somewhere around age twelve my little brother chewed it in half.” Maisy is the first to speak, her voice soft and her green eyes cautious. The brother in question, standing next to her, casts her a sidelong glance before offering up a smile of his own.
“As luck happens, I brought two. So we wouldn’t have to fight over them at this conference.” Shane grins, chocolate eyes and ebony curls dancing. Even after handing Maisy the marker, identical to the one from their youth, she seems to radiate energy and movement. They stare at one another for a long moment before Maisy’s brother breaks the silence.
“Good lord, they’re going to make a Lifetime movie about y’all.”
